The BLF models are bottom loading chamber furnaces with
electrically operated elevator hearths. The maximum operating
temperatures is:

Heating Elements
Free radiating Kanthal
Super 1900 Elements located around the side of the chamber.
Insulation
High temperature refractory
brick on the hot face backed by low thermal mass graded fibre.
Temperature Sensors
Pt 20% Rh / Pt 40% Rh
thermocouple
Controls
Temperature control by
Eurotherm 902P programmer. Over-temperature protection by Eurotherm controller
with additional thermocouple.
Controls are mounted in the
furnace body. The hearth control switch is mounted below the temperature
controls.
Power control is by phase
angle fired thyristor protected against over-current and voltage
transients, operating on the primary side of a step-down transformer
providing the appropriate voltage for the
elements circuit.
A contactor isolates the
elements in the event of an over-temperature condition and also when the
hearth is fully lowered.
Cooling fans provide forced
air cooling of the case.

Bottom Loading Chamber Furnace
to 1800° C
Chamber dimensions are 6" diameter
x 7.5" high.
Kanthal Super 1900 molybdenum tungsten disilicide heating
elements are equally positioned around the walls
of the chamber to provide
excellent chamber uniformity. Dense hot face refractory and low thermal
mass
secondary insulation combine to provide a thermal and energy efficient
chamber.
Operator safety is emphasized through an electrically operated,
push button controlled, elevator hearth
which allows the crucible or work piece
to be safely removed from the hot furnace chamber.
The chamber is equipped
with an exhaust vent for processes that generate fumes.
A removable top
panes allows easy installation of heating elements, and convenient access to
electrical leads.
The furnace is supplied with a Pt 20% Rh/Pt 40% Rh
thermocouple.
All controls are mounted at convenient work height on the side
of the furnace cabinetry.
This furnace is designed to be used on a bench
top.
The temperature controller is the Eurotherm Model: 2416CG
programmable controller.
Improvements in measurement and control
techniques over previous controllers enhance both the control accuracy
and performance
of the 2416CG. This 1/16 DIN digital PID instrument provides 8
programmable segments,
with any segment capable of being a ramp [either up or
down] or dwell [timed soak].
A holdback feature allows the operator to set
a process vs. set-point deviation temperature value,
and when exceeded, hold the
program to allow process temperature to catch up.
The instrument
incorporates a self-tuning feature that establishes PID settings for your
thermal process;
based on operating temperature, load and furnace performance
characteristics.
The "Instant Accuracy" feature provides precise
and stable control from the moment the controller is powered up.
Two LED
digital displays simultaneously indicate actual furnace temperature and set-point
temperature.
Temperature may be displayed in degrees C or F.
Optional digital communications for interfacing with a PC are available.
An independent over-temperature protection positive protection of both furnace
and load
in the event of failure in the primary control circuit.
The
control circuit includes mains on indication, instrumentation on/off switch,
and
a "heater on" light in parallel with the heating elements.
The
furnace is rated at 6,000 watts for operation on 208 or 240 volts [customer to
specify], 50/60 Hz, single phase.
External dimensions are 38.5" H x
29.5" w x 21" D
Carbolite offers a programmable control that provides greater
programming capability than the previously described 2416CG controller.
The Eurotherm Model: 2408CP 1/8 DIN PID instrument provides 16 programmable
segments,
with each segment capable of being programmed as a ramp or dwell.
